Shan-Nel D. Simmons, EA is the owner of Nel’s Tax Help, LLC which is a tax resolution and small business accounting company. She has over 15 years of experience in accounting and tax. She is a former IRS revenue agent where she audited the financial records and tax returns of individuals and businesses. She possesses a MBA in accounting and finance; and she is completing her second Master degree in Taxation at Northeastern University.
She is a wife of 11 years to her wonderful husband Brandon.
She is the mother of a two daughters but the parent of one. Her first daughter Ashley passed away merely hours after she was born. However, her second daughter Brynn is a brilliant and playful toddler who is about to turn 2 this year.
In addition to work and family, Shan-Nel enjoys wine, smooth jazz, joking around with close friends, and pedicures.
What’s your HUSTLE?
By offering tax solutions and accounting services for personal and business matters, I want to help others get out of trouble and stay out of trouble with their taxes and their overall finances.
Who/What inspired YOUR HUSTLE?
Both of my daughters.
My first daughter taught me the reality of life and that everyone’s time is limited. No one can guarantee how much time we each have left; therefore, we each should not wait until tomorrow to live our dreams and to fulfill our goals. Now is the only time we can guarantee to make sure our dreams happen.
My second daughter motivated me to execute my plan of being an entrepreneur. I want her to know she can be everything she ever dreams to be. I knew from the moment I brought her home that she would look to me as her prime example of what it means to be a wife, a mom, and most importantly, a woman. How can I tell her the sky is the limit if she never sees me attempt to fly?
How are you “Hustling up” Mamapreneurs to the next level?
I help mamapreneurs stay compliant with their taxes while providing them analyses and advice about their income, expenses, and operations. This helps mamapreneurs make more informed decisions as business owners that lead to strategies to help with profits and understand losses.
Also, I help free up mamaprenuers’ time by handling their taxes and accounting duties for them. Many entrepreneurs in general are great at whatever service or product they offer, but struggle when it comes to the tax, financial, and administrative responsibilities of their businesses. I remove the stress of these necessary areas of running a business and allow mamapreneurs to focus more on other areas of their business. This also helps mamapreneurs spend more time with their family instead of being buried in paperwork during off-hours.
What strategies worked or are working for your business?
Referrals and networking. Since I’m in the business of helping others, I have to always seek new connections and maintain current relationships. Most of my referrals and business come from just one encounter with someone—so I guess I make a great first impression. But if it were not for others spreading the word about my business, my business would have failed already.
