What is your Hustle (Business)?

Alexia McLeod, LCSW is the owner and founder of Therapeutic Center for Hope. She is a psychotherapist, consultant, and motivational speaker.

Who/What inspired Your Hustle?

My story is not what many would think when they see me today. I grew up with great parents who loved me and a wonderful family who supported me, but I realize now that the middle of my story is not how the end of my story was meant to be. When I graduated with my Advanced Standing Masters at the tender age of 21 and thought I knew everything I met who I thought to be an amazing man. He was GORGEOUS and had a British accent. No one could tell me anything. We had a whirlwind relationship. I became pregnant. We got married... An order that I am not proud of but that is my truth. Despite some signs that things may not be right I convinced myself that I was going to make it work. Soon after we were married I noticed changes in his behavior. He became verbally abusive, then physically threatening. I prayed that God would give my child the father He intended. The one she deserved. When I made the decision to leave was when he held an object over me threatening to take my life.

My divorce took me 2 years and $50,000. I learned quickly that you can easily make money but it is not so easy to regain your sanity. Divorce is emotional, but maintaining class and knowing your worth despite what is coming against you allows you to receive your blessing. I looked at my daughter and knew she was my inspiration for more. I knew that I wanted to be the woman that she could look up to and be proud of. After taking time to heal and following the techniques I give to my own patients today, I met my current husband who adopted my daughter and was the blessing I was asking for, just not the way I thought I was going to get it. I asked for a father that my daughter deserved and she got it. She is my inspiration. Telling this story and having others know that their current situation is not their final destination is what inspires my hustle.
